'Bright Blue days' - Everton message sent to fans ahead of new Women's Super League season

Izzy Christiansen believes Everton Women are ready to help bring "bright Blue days" to Walton Hall Park as she urged supporters to back her side in the upcoming season.

The Blues star said the squad - boosted by a new manager and eight signings - is "in a really good place right now" as the countdown to the Women's Super League continues. Excitement for the campaign, which will include the return of the Merseyside derby, is growing with hundreds of supporters attending an open training session at Goodison Park on Friday.

And following the success of the Lionesses over the summer, the club is hopeful that fanbase will increase further.

Speaking against the backdrop of a cheering crowd at the open training event, Christiansen praised the fans for their support and said: "It has been absolutely amazing. The day has gone swimmingly well, it's great, the fans are making loads of noise for a training session so hopefully we can get them down to Walton Hall Park to cheer us on for the season. This is a club which has got the best supporters in the country, in my opinion. The noise inside Goodison Park on a home game is remarkable and for a fraction of those fans to be coming out and watching us train today shows the massive interest in the women's team and obviously we want them to come and support us through the season."

Everton Women are a team in transition as new manager Brian Sorensen attempts to imprint his vision on a squad bursting with new signings. Christiansen said: "There's been a lot of changes but we needed it. It's all part of the process and we are in a really good place right now as a team and the staff group have got a really clear plan and identity. We are really looking forward to the season. Everyone is doing brilliant and the girls are settling in really well so I'm really excited.

"We want to bring some bright Blue days to Walton Hall Park this season and I know this team can play some exciting football so we're really excited to get out there and show our fans what we can do. We had a fantastic turn out at the start of last season so I would urge people to get down to Walton Hall Park and watch us play. We are really going to do well for the badge this season. Every club has got the chance now to generate and build more interest off the back of the England team this summer so we can't wait to welcome people - new fans and old fans - to Walton Hall Park. We just can't wait to get going now. I know this team can be capable of great things from what I am seeing so far as the captain of this team I am really excited."
