Actress Renée Zellweger has taken her 'unrecognisable' transformation into a character for her latest crime drama role as a 'great compliment'.
The Bridget Jones actress appeared in 'head to toe costume' in promo shots for her new NBC crime series The Thing About Pam as she was wearing a 'fat suit' and prosthetics to play the titular character.
The 52-year-old two-time Oscar winner told how Vanity Fair that it was 'a great compliment' to hear that so many people couldn't even believe it was her after the character make-under.
She told the publication: "Oh, gosh, if you don’t recognise an actor or an actress in a performance, that’s a great compliment,' Renée gushed.
She added that being unrecognisable would allow viewers to not get distracted with her star status and sink into the story.
She continued: 'You’re not trying to tell your own story,' she said.
Renée appears in a large blue shirt with baggy jeans and the same white snow boots she's been seen with in recent on-set photos.
And the character's appearance is crucial to the story as she is able to evade suspicion due to her unassuming clothing.
She added:''It seems like she’s of generous character, that she’s thoughtful, and that she’s a good friend,' Renée continued. 'I guess that’s part of the deception, isn’t it? Because you might assume that that’s as far as it goes."
Zellweger described her costume as 'pretty much head to toe.'
Her face was transformed by prosthetics to give her a larger jaw and bigger nose, and her hair was styled into a bright blonde bob.
The series is based on the true story of Pam Hupp, who killed a disabled man in 2016.
She also pleaded not guilty to the murder of a friend Betsy Farria, who was found stabbed 55 times in 2011.
Betsy’s husband Russell was originally accused of the murder, but he was released from prison and awarded more than £1 million in compensation. It’s thought that Pam framed him for the crime.
The Bridget Jones actress famously altered her figure - piling on two stone to play Helen Fielding's diary-writing singleton, then rapidly shed the pounds afterwards.
Sharing an insight into filming the two movies she shared: "Can I just tell you my body is whacked by the time we finish one of those.
"It doesn't know what has happened because it thinks there's supposed to be a baby and there's no christening."
The Thing About Pam consist of 6 episodes, the first of which will debut on March 8 on NBC.
