Bridgestone poll shows Scots' EV positivity

SCOTS motorists are rapidly accelerating towards electric travel, with 70 per cent preparing to ditch their traditionally powered cars for good, according to a major study.

The survey for leading tyre manufacturer Bridgestone showed drivers north of the Border had a variety of positive reasons to make the switch.

Topping the table were 62 per cent citing environmental positives and 48 per cent looking forward to making fuel savings.

A further 23 per cent referenced tax benefits as a reason for the switch and seven per cent were looking forward to a reduction in noise emissions as their primary reason.

Importantly, 41 per cent were keen to know more about EV maintenance and how it differs to standard makes and models.

Bridgestone has already developed its technology to ensure that EVs can travel further between charges while prolonging battery life, as well as ensuring its tyres are far more environmentally friendly.

The firm has also committed to install up to 3500 new charging points across Europe in the next five years through a partnership with EV Box, with plans for the first roll-out in the UK set to be announced soon.

More broadly, the YouGov study also suggests that UK motorists are well informed on changes ahead, with 58 per cent aware that all new car sales must be zero emission by 2035.

Of that figure, 23 per cent are keen to see this target brought forward to 2030 and 27 per cent would also like to learn new driving tips to help them get more from their electric vehicle.

Bridgestone boss Andrea Manenti said: “We are investing in our mobility solutions like never before, with new products, charging points and training in place for the full integration of EV travel.

“With this in mind, it is great to see that the Scottish public are also on board with the technology and the huge changes that are beginning to be seen.

“The survey tells me that we’re all moving in the same direction when it comes to EV travel and we’ll continue to push the boundaries to ensure that Bridgestone is a pioneering company in this area.”
