Bridgerton showrunner reveals fans face two year wait for season 4

Bridgerton’s showrunner has told fans they will have to wait a significant amount of time for the fourth season to debut on Netflix.

Season three, which centres on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and her blossoming romance with longtime friend Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), was released in two parts, with the second half landing on the streamer on Thursday.

However, viewers who have eagerly binge-watched part two to see if the on-screen pair get their happily ever after will need to be patient as showrunner Jess Brownell revealed the fourth series could be another two years away.

Speaking at the London premiere, Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter: “We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language.

“And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up but somewhere in that range.”

The producer also revealed that the Bridgerton writers’ room is now “towards the end” of the writing process, and the results have her feeling “really excited”.

She continued: “I feel like it’s some of my best work and my writers room’s best work.“

“We’ve just really gelled our collaboration, and we’re firing on all cylinders so I can’t wait for fans to see what we have.”

Netflix has not yet revealed which Bridgerton family member will be the focus of the fourth season.

However, the third season deviated from Julia Quinn’s book order to highlight Penelope and Colin’s romance.

Quinn’s third novel, An Offer from a Gentleman, revolves around Benedict, the second eldest brother portrayed by Luke Thompson, while the fourth book, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, is about Colin.

With that in mind, the showrunner mentioned that eagle-eyed viewers might find clues about the direction of the fourth season in the current one.

She shared with Town & Country: “There are some clues at the end of season three about where we’re headed.

“So I have a feeling fans will probably work it out.”
