Bridgerton's Luke Newton teases what could be in store for Colin and Penelope

Bridgerton star Luke Newton has teased what the future could hold for his character Colin and his friend Penelope Featherington in the hit Netflix period drama. The Regency romance's second series which follows the oldest Bridgerton sibling Anthony was released on Friday, March 25, with many fans having already binge-watched all eight episodes.

Viewers have known since the end of the first series that Penelope Featherington played by Nicola Coughlan, is Lady Whistledown but the Ton are still unaware of the true identify of the gossip writer. But that's not the only secret Penelope has been hiding as she also has a crush on her best friend Eloise's older brother Colin Bridgerton.

Season two does show glimpses of the couple becoming closer and viewers are now eager to see the pair end up together. Those who have read the books by Julia Quinn - which the series is based on - will know the fourth book 'Romancing Mr Bridgerton' tells Colin and Penelope's story, suggesting a happy ending could also play out in the Netflix series.

Luke Newton who plays the third oldest Bridgerton sibling, Colin, joined ITV's Lorraine on Monday, March 28, to discuss the latest series and what could be in store for Colin and Pen in the future once he's finally aware she is Lady Whistledown.

"The character [Penelope] completely changes [in series two] and I've thought lots about how that's going to effect Colin when he finds out because obviously they're very close," the 29-year-old actor explained: "It totally changes her character because ... she's this innocent friend that he's had his entire life and actually she's this very strong business woman and he'll have no idea."

Lorraine added: "You want to say to him 'for goodness sake you love her and she loves you, come on! Get on with it!'."

"I just want to shake him sometimes and say look what's right in front of your face." Luke agreed.

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV from 9am.
