Bridgerton fans were stunned on Friday morning as they tuned into season two of the period drama and heard Nicola Coughlan speaking with her natural accent.
Nicola, 35, plays the role of Penelope Featherington in the hit Netflix series - but is also well known for her part in much-loved Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls.
Bridgerton Season one saw actress Nicola speak with a posh London accent as Penelope, who is the youngest daughter of a nouveau-riche family in Regency-era London.
At the end of the first series, Penelope was revealed to be the mystery newsletter columnist known as Lady Whistledown.
In the opening episode of season two, Penelope is seen jumping straight back into her writing as another debutante season begins.
Less than 10 minutes in, Penelope is seen taking a horse and carriage late at night to the printers as she rushes to get the latest newsletter ready.
As she approaches the printer, Penelope begins to speak but her posh accent is long gone as she speaks in an Irish one in order to protect her anonymity.
Viewers were delighted to hear Nicola acting using her natural accent and took to Twitter to comment.
"NICOLA’S ACCENT. OMG THAT’S HOT. LOOK AT PEN DRIVING A HARD BARGAIN AND STANDING UP FOR THE DELIVER BOYS WAGES! QUEEN. #Bridgerton," one person said.
Another tweeted: "THE IRISH ACCENT YES! #Bridgerton," while a third added: "Penelope with an accent what a bad b**ch give her her crownnnnn #bridgertonseason2 #Bridgerton."
Someone else clearly didn't realise that Nicola speaks with an Irish accent in real-life and posted: "Ayo, Penelope's Irish accent is on point!! That lady's smart as hell. #Bridgerton #bridgertonseason2."
Bridgerton Season 2 is available to watch on Netflix now.
