Bridgerton creator Shonda Rhimes has hinted there may be another spin-off in the works after the success of Queen Charlotte. The Netflix original has proved to be an enormous hit, with Bridgerton's second series breaking Netflix's record for most viewing hours.
During its first week of release, the period drama racked up 251.74 million viewing hours. Queen Charlotte has also been an enormous hit, quickly becoming the month's most streamed show in both the UK and US.
The spin-off, which tells the story of the queen's rise to "prominence and power", has left viewers hungry for more. Bridgerton first premiered in December 2020 and followed the fictional aristocratic family of the same name.
Set in the Regency-era it centres around the family, their acquaintances and romantic endeavours. The series has earnt a loyal following and has seen a boom in Regency fashion interest, dubbed Regencycore, with major retailers all stocking Bridgerton-inspired clothing.
Violet's Bridgerton spin-off
Speaking to HELLO! at the Queen Charlotte London premiere in Leicester Square, Rhimes sent fans into a frenzy by teasing another addition to the Bridgerton-verse. Asked whether fans can expect to see any more characters get their own series, the show creator said: "There's no plan to explore anybody in particular.
"I was just doing this because I was so passionate about the subject. Although, in writing it I got very interested in Violet's story. So, we'll see."
Violet Bridgerton is played by Ruth Gemmell in the original series, with a younger version of the character played by Connie Jenkins-Greig in Queen Charlotte. In the new series, the audience is introduced to Violet as "a kind and inquisitive teenager who has not yet entered the marriage mart … or famously become a Bridgerton."
Thanks to Rhimes and the books on which Bridgerton is based, there is a huge part of the Ton-verse still waiting to be expanded by telling the stories of individual characters. Expect fans to urge Netflix to commission a brand new series after the success of Queen Charlotte.
