Bride-to-be wearing inflatable penis costume repeatedly stabbed on her hen do

A thug who attacked a bride-to-be on her hen do, stabbing the inflatable penis costume she was wearing has been spared jail.

Laura Inglis was attacked by Ronald McKinnon, 27, who jumped on her at Eaglesham Pavilion and Playing Fields in East Renfrewshire.

Laura was celebrating her hen do ahead of her wedding to partner Jill Hutchinson.

Crazed McKinnon used a "sharp implement" to "repeatedly stab" 23-year-old Laura's costume, reports the Paisley Daily Express.

Laura, a former star striker with 2021 Scottish Women's Football League winners Bishopton Ladies, was left so shaken by the incident she did not contact police until later that day.

McKinnon was tracked down by officers and charged with possessing a knife in public and culpable and reckless conduct by stabbing the costume.

He previously pleaded guilty to the culpable and reckless conduct charge, which stated he did "repeatedly stab an inflatable costume worn by Laura Inglis with utter disregard to the consequences".

Prosecutors amended the charge to say he had used "a sharp implement" to stab the costume, rather than a knife, and his not guilty plea was accepted to the knife possession charge.

When McKinnon returned to the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court on Wednesday to be sentenced, defence solicitor Tony Callahan said McKinnon had struggled with alcohol addiction but has turned his life around ahead of becoming a dad.

He explained: "This is an unusual case. He is now sober, having sought assistance for his difficulties and he continues to engage.

"His partner is expecting their first child in October."

He asked for McKinnon, of Eaglesham, to be placed on a Community Payback Order which would see him supervised by social workers.

But Sheriff Gillian Craig said she did not think that was an adequate course of action over the June 12, 2021, offence.

She explained: "Supervision may be of assistance to your client but he seems to be fairly motivated to help himself anyway."

She then told McKinnon: "In relation to this matter, I'm not going to impose a sentence at this stage.

"I'm going to defer sentencing again, for a period of four months, and that's simply to keep an eye on you, sir."

She told McKinnon to keep out of trouble and to return to the dock in October to learn his fate.
