When it comes to picking the people that will be in your bridal party on your wedding day, it's common to choose people that you consider your closest friends, as well as family members such as sisters or cousins.
But one woman has said she chose not to have her best friend as a bridesmaid at her wedding after a "horrendous" comment her mum made about the other woman's looks.
The bride said that her mum told her not to make her best friend a bridesmaid because she was "prettier and thinner" than her daughter, so would upstage her in the photos.
And because her parents were paying for the wedding, the bride listened to her advice - a decision which she now regrets.
The woman's confession was made known during an episode of the Unfiltered Bride podcast, in which host Georgie read out a comment that had been left on the podcast's YouTube channel.
It read: "My mother told me I couldn't have my best friend as a bridesmaid as she was prettier and thinner than me. The worst thing to hear, and I listened to her as my parents were paying for my wedding. It's one of my biggest regrets."
Georgie and co-host Beth then discussed the drama with each other as they were left horrified by what they'd read, with Beth admitting she was "speechless".
Beth said: "There's not a lot of times I'm speechless, but I am speechless. What a b***h of a mum!"
And Georgie replied: "I feel sad, that's the meanest thing I've ever seen."
To which Beth added: "That is horrendous behaviour. That mum needs to be fired, I'd not invite her."
A clip of the podcast was later shared on the Unfiltered Bride's TikTok account, where commenters were quick to share their own stories of mums refusing to let certain people into the bridal party.
One person said: "My mum said the opposite! When I said my friend was maid of honour she said, 'isn't she too big?' "
While another added: "My mum forbid me from participating in my cousin/best friend's wedding because the groomsman I would be paired with was a different race."
Others simply said they would be "gutted" if they heard their mum admit that their best friend was "prettier" than them, while others joked they would be "looking for care homes" after the "savage" comment.
