Everyone knows it's wrong to wear white to another bride's wedding - but it seems some people just can't help themselves. That's exactly what happened to one bride who was shocked to see her mother-in-law show up in a white gown "with a transparent chiffon layer and a bolero".
She explained how guests even started to whisper about its likeness to a wedding dress, with her sister even threatening to 'accidentally' pour red wine all over it. Taking to Reddit, she said: "I told myself I wouldn't let it ruin my night and would let the show go on.
"In my defence this was the plan, but unfortunately one moment during the reception, when she came close to me, I just blurted out 'How’s it going, bride number two?' and carried on having fun. No one else heard me, since the music was very loud, but my mum and a friend of mine told me later that she became hysterical outside and wanted to leave.
"She didn’t, but I could see the pure hatred in her eyes."
The mother-in-law stayed out of her way for the rest of the evening - but launched into a 'screaming match' when it came to the goodbyes.
"When the wedding was over, they got up and left," she added. "They didn’t say goodbye to anyone and my mum insisted I went after them.
"They could have at least said thanks to my parents because they paid for 80 per cent of the wedding and had worked so much for this day to happen, whilst they came as regular guests.
"I wish I didn’t listen to my mother, a couple of minutes later I went after them and there was so much yelling between my mother-in-law and my husband - he confronted her about her wardrobe choices.
"When she saw me, she screamed at me 'How dare you call me a bride number two, I was married only once, which is exactly what I wish for you!'.
"This sounded more like a curse than a blessing coming from her at that moment.
"My husband took the best possible position in that situation and told her she wasn’t allowed to talk to me like that since I am his wife now. She was livid!
"Maybe she was just oblivious that she didn’t know you can’t ware a white dress to another person’s wedding, because this is what she told everyone after that, that she didn’t know."
While most users praised her for calling out her mother-in-law, others argued that she knew exactly what she was doing by wearing white.
Commenting on her situation, one user said: "She 100 per cent knew you don't wear white to a wedding unless you are the bride. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
"Good on you for sticking up for yourself and the cherry on top is you look like the bigger person after she threw a temper tantrum after being a disrespectful a***hole for her wardrobe choice."
Another user added: "It was a power play. To show she is still number one in her son's life. She wanted him to make you apologise, instead, he doubled down and told her off."
A third user said: "She was being petty and I love what you said to her - it was hilarious."
