Brice Samba takes Ligue 1 by storm after shock Nottingham Forest transfer

Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba is taking Ligue 1 by storm.

The 28 year-old joined RC Lens this summer after turning down the offer of a new contract at Nottingham Forest. He is still highly regarded by Reds fans after playing such a key role in earning the team promotion back to the Premier League.

Samba saved three penalties in the play-off semi-final second leg away at Sheffield United and came up with important saves in the final and throughout the season as a whole. Supporters were gutted when he refused to pen a new deal, with the writing on the wall for his move away.

Since joining Lens, Samba has played every minute of their opening seven Ligue 1 games and they have shocked the country by sitting at the top of the table. Lens secured a 1-0 win at home to Troyes yesterday - another clean sheet for Samba - which has earned him praise in France and sees his side above star-studded Paris Saint-Germain in the table.

Speaking after the match yesterday, Samba told the media : “It's always good to be at the top of the table, even if it's only for 24 hours. It's gratifying and it rewards the work since the start of the season.

"It was not easy against a great team from Troyes but we remember the essentials, namely the three points. They really had a solid, compact block where it was difficult to find the solutions. We tried to do with the means at hand and we scored from a set piece.

"There will be times when it will be a little less good and when you have to be efficient to take the three points. We will lose one day for sure but we hope as late as possible."
