Brianna Ghey murder trial pushed back and location changed

The trial of a schoolboy and girl accused of murdering 16-year-old Brianna Ghey has been pushed back.

The two accused, a boy of 15 and a girl aged 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were scheduled to go on trial in July at Liverpool Crown Court. But at a hearing on Friday, May 26, before Mrs Justice Yip, a new trial date was set for November 27.

The trial will also take place at Manchester Crown Court and is estimated to last up to three weeks. The 50-minute hearing on Friday dealt with issues which cannot be reported ahead of the trial.

Both defendants were charged following the death of Brianna, from Birchwood in Warrington, who was found with fatal stab wounds on a path in Culcheth Linear Park shortly after 3pm on Saturday, February 11. Neither defendant was present for the hearing on Friday but will attend in person for a further pre-trial hearing in Manchester on July 20.

The girl, from Warrington, and the boy, from Leigh, are both currently held in youth detention accommodation.
