In 2021, Florida police visited the home of Brian Laundrie following the disappearance of his fiancee, Gabby Petito. Newly released bodycam footage shows a tense interaction as Laundrie's parents dodged questions from officers.
During the encounter, Christopher Laundrie, Brian's father, refused to speak with the police, citing legal representation. The officers were seeking information about the last time the parents had seen their son or Petito, who had been reported missing by her mother in New York.
Authorities later discovered that Brian Laundrie had allegedly killed Petito, leaving her body in a national forest before returning home using her van and debit card. The investigation revealed disturbing details, including a handwritten confession found in a drybag at the scene where Laundrie took his own life.
The tragic incident prompted Petito's parents to establish a nonprofit foundation in her honor, dedicated to assisting families of missing persons and advocating against domestic violence. Their efforts led to the implementation of federal legislation and lethality assessment laws in several states.
As part of their advocacy, the foundation donated $100,000 to the National Domestic Violence Hotline to support victims of domestic abuse.
