Brian Laudrup predicts gnawing Celtic regret if Ange joins Spurs but senses Michael Beale delight if exit happens

Rangers icon Brian Laudrup is convinced Ange Postecoglou possesses the managerial chops to turn around toiling Tottenham Hotspur.

And the Danish legend believes a Celtic exit would be both a body blow for his current team and a major boost for Michael Beale amid his major Ibrox revamp. The 54-year-old is a major admirer of the Parkhead boss and believes his ability would be a smash-hit in the English Premier League with a downtrodden side itching for a saviour. And he is under no doubt a potential farewell to Glasgow will breathe new life into a Rangers side who have been left second best during Postecoglou's time with Celtic.

And Spurs' nightmare season which led to Antonio Conte's explosive exit has opened the door to a new leader in north London capable of turning their fortunes around. Laudrup believes it might be the right move for both the 57-year-old and the team keen to secure his services. Speaking in his Daily Mail column, he said: "I think this is a great time to take the Tottenham job. I really do. Given all their recent woes, a manager with a clear plan has an opportunity to go there, make an impact and be viewed as a saviour. Will that be Ange Postecoglou? Time will tell. But there's no doubt further news of Spurs' intentions will be eagerly awaited. On both sides of Glasgow.

"A lot of Rangers fans and I think Michael Beale as well would love to see Postecoglou move on from Celtic. In my view, it would actually be a feather in the cap of Scottish football if his excellent achievements in the Premiership were recognised by an approach from a club such as Spurs. Were he to accept, Celtic would obviously do everything to find the best possible replacement.

"Often, though, it takes a little while for a new manager to put across his own ideas and make the changes he wants. A degree of uncertainty is introduced. Postecoglou leaving wouldn't give Rangers the upper hand for next season. Not with the structure and the squad the Australian has put in place at Parkhead. But it would, at least, give my old club a chance to even things up if they got their own business right this summer. That latter point remains absolutely critical, regardless of what happens with

"I've never hidden my admiration for the job done by the Celtic manager. The speed with which he introduced a new culture to the club was sensational at odds with the norm \u0097 and he reaped huge rewards from that. He raised the bar in Scottish football and has done pretty much everything right since he joined. It looks like Spurs are now very interested. And I can understand that for sure.

"As I said, people maybe look at the issues Tottenham have right now and think it's a bad point to take charge in north London. I totally disagree. This is a team under-performing and facing a lot of criticism. Plentiful flak has also been directed towards Daniel Levy. If a new manager comes in, stabilises things and gets Spurs on the right track, he would gain so much credit. That's why it's a good opportunity. With proper guidance, the only way should be up.

"There is a little bit of similarity to what Postecoglou did at Parkhead. When he took over, Celtic were in a very difficult situation after the disaster of their failed attempt for ten in a row. Rangers looked the dominant club at that point. But he rapidly turned it around. Of course, the English Premier League is a very different beast. The competition down there is incredibly tough. But no one expects Tottenham to suddenly become title favourites next season. It would be about building back into European qualification and progressing from there."

Postecoglou stands on the verge of a fifth trophy out of six if his side see off Inverness in the Scottish Cup Final but Laudrup reckons there would be one regret if the end comes in Mount Florida. He reckons the Greek-Australian's competitive streak means he would love another crack at the Champions League with his current team. But the Ibrox hero think Spurs could prove the right opportunity and the perfect time.

He added: "If an offer comes, Postecoglou will have to think very hard. For now, I'm sure his mind will be focused on winning the Treble in this weekend's Scottish Cup final against Inverness. It could be two seasons with five trophies and a lot of good football. His only regret, if he was to go this summer, would be the Champions League. He would have loved to have shown Celtic could get results in Europe playing his way.

"If you look at the two years as a whole, however, I'm certain he would be remembered fondly for a very long time. Moving on during a close season also causes far fewer issues than leaving in the middle of a campaign. Common sense just says it's a huge decision for him if Spurs make a genuine offer. Were that to happen, I could see him going. The timing might just be right."
