Brian Laudrup reckons Alfredo Morelos and Rangers have "given up" on one another - and says he's sad to see things come to an end the way they are.
Morelos is ticking down towards the end of his contract and while Michael Beale has urged the likes of Ryan Kent and Ryan Jack to pen new deals, he's stopped short of asking Morelos to do the same. Instead he urged the Colombian to earn his future at Ibrox saying he needs to see "a little bit more" from him as Antonio Colak has jumped ahead of him in the pecking order.
Reports have suggested he is close to a move to Sevilla although it's believed he has told Rangers for now that he hasn't signed anything yet. But Laudrup says he's "sad" to see things coming to an end for the 26-year-old the way they are and believes both parties have "given up" on striking an agreement.
He told the Daily Mail: "Alfredo Morelos did a lot for Rangers during what was a very difficult period in the history of the club. He was a big part of the team that delivered title No.55 for the Ibrox fans. And in Europe, especially, he was outstanding, scoring against some big teams and helping Rangers to some great results.
"What I didn't want to see was, when it was time for him to depart Ibrox, him leaving out the back door. Yet Michael Beale's remarks after Sunday's 3-0 win over Raith Rovers that 'I have not seen any change in him' suggests he has given up on Morelos.
"He wanted to delay that decision for as long as possible and give him as many chances as possible but I don't think Morelos has shown he's got the hunger or the quality required any more. He's looked out of shape and, in the big games where you need him, he's not been there.
"It was always the case that he was so unpredictable you wouldn't know what you would get from him, but neither did the opponents. Now, I can't see Morelos getting back to the player he was three years ago.
"It looks like it's coming to an end and that saddens me because Morelos is at an age where he could have played another two or three years at a very high level with Rangers. It seems like he's given up a wee bit and he needs a fresh challenge.
"He has been able to speak to teams for a few months now and there have been unconfirmed reports that he has reached a pre-contract agreement with Sevilla. All that's left now is for both parties to move on and say thanks for the memories."
