Brian Kerr slams Jose Mourinho for 'over the top celebrations' after Roma's UEFA Conference League win

Brian Kerr has slated Jose Mourinho for his 'over the top celebrations' after his Roma side defeated Feyenoord in the UEFA Conference League final.

Wednesday night's triumph was Mourinho's fifth European title as a manager, having previously won the Champions League and Europa League/UEFA Cup in his illustrious career.

In doing so, Mourinho equalled former Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni and became the second man to win five major European trophies.

Kerr, appearing as a pundit on Virgin Media, was scathing in his criticism of Mourinho, both for his sides style of play and his celebrations after the win.

He said: “It shows why he has lost respect as one of the top coaches in the game,” he began. “He’s almost considered as an also ran now, and that’s why with his type of football.

“It was almost anti-football. The goalkeeper got the ball and kicked it as high as he could to Tammy Abraham, and if any of the back three had the ball, they just booted it forward.

“There was no constructive football or combination plays.

“Of course finals are for winning, and he’s telling people that. His lack of humility is also why people look at him and go. 'The players won those five cups.'

“The manager picks the team and puts a bit of a shape around it, but at times they were shapeless. They got away with it against a side who are inferior.

“The manager should not be claiming the glory that he won competitions. The team wins them.”
