Brian Harman What's In The Bag? 2025 Update

Brian Harman What's In The Bag 2025.

Brian Harman What's In The Bag?

A three-time winner on the PGA Tour and a player with a runner-up finish at the 2017 US Open, diminutive left-hander Brian Harman secured his biggest career victory at the 2023 Open Championship, in which he won by a whopping six shots. Harman, after having previously used a mixture of clubs from TaylorMade and Titleist, is now a staff player for the latter, using pretty much a full bag of clubs from the brand.

Since then, other than the TaylorMade putter he made famous during his Open victory he has a full bag of Titleist clubs in the bag as well as playing a Titleist golf ball.

Driver

Starting at the top of the bag he has a Titleist TSi2 driver at nine degrees. He briefly tested out the smaller Titleist TSi3 model but the more forgiving TSi2 suited him better and while he is one of the shorter hitters on tour Harman is known for his straight driving and that was a part of his game that really stood out during his Open victory at Royal Liverpool.

At address, we found the TSi2 to look generous in size but not so big that it looks chunky and unwieldy. It also has a more rounded toe compared to the previous TS2 which really adds to the inviting aesthetics. We also appreciated how good it sounded through impact - a powerful acoustic thanks to the appealing 'thud' sound.

As an overall package it neatly balances distance with forgiveness and consistency, making the Titleist TSi2 one of the best golf drivers around. We also included this driver in the best drivers for seniors, and best high handicap drivers.

Harman's model is fitted with a Graphite Design Tour AD IZ 5 S shaft.

Fairways

Moving on to the fairway woods Harman carries two Titleist TS2 models. a three-wood with 13.5 degrees of loft and a five-wood with 16.5 degrees loft. Lots of Tour professionals have put the TS2 in the bag because it launches nice and high and is super forgiving across the face, thanks to the deeper and lower CG. This makes it a thoroughly playable fairway wood for golfers up and down the handicap range, but we would specifically recommend it as one of the best fairway woods for mid-handicap golfers.

Both clubs are fitted with a Fujikura Speeder 661 Evolution II S shaft.

Irons

Shifting to the irons he carries three Titleist U500 utility irons from three-iron to five-iron. These are fitted with Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black 90 shafts.

Then the rest of his irons are Titleist 620 CB's and these go from six-iron down to pitching wedge. All of these irons are fitted with True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 shafts. These are an excellent iron for low handicap golfers.

Wedges

Harman carries three Titleist Vokey SM9 wedges with 50, 54 and 60 degrees of loft. In our testing the SM9 was a five-star design so its use by the world's best players makes sense given the performance and quality on offer.

Putter

Harman is one of a number of leading Tour pros who use a TaylorMade putter, but his is the older, Spider OS Counter Balance version which he has been using for a number of years now. It is extremely distinctive as it has a very large and forgiving footprint.

Harman's incredible putting at the 2023 Open Championship put this putter back on the map as it seemed like he couldn't miss. It is certainly one of the most forgiving putters you will find.

Ball

Harman uses a Pro V1 golf ball which is one of the best premium golf balls in the game, as shown by our five star review. It launches lower and spins less than the Pro V1x and overall it provides superb all-round performance. A couple of other key difference between this and Pro V1x is the Pro V1 feels fractionally softer and offers a lower peak height.

There is an interesting story around how Harman decided to put the Pro V1 into play. In 2017 Johnson Wagner asked Harman, who was still playing another golf ball, if he wanted to team up at the Zurich Classic.

“He was kind of curious as to what ball we wanted to play,” Harman said. “I said, ‘I played Titleist balls in college and everything. We’ll just play your ball (in alternate shot), no problem. We had a nice tournament... It got really windy. I was hitting some shots with Johnson’s ball, shots that I just couldn’t hit with the ball I was playing. After that round, I decided to switch to the Pro V1."

Harman reiterated the significance of his switch prior to the 2022 Open Championship at St.Andrews, where he finished T6: “The reason I switched back to Titleist was because of windy days and with Open Championships and major championships in mind. To flight the ball and not have to worry about it getting up and getting out of hand was a big deal.”

Clearly this worked at the 2023 Open Championship too as he destroyed the field despite playing in some less than ideal conditions.

Apparel/Shoes

Harman wears Footjoy apparel and his shoe of choice is the Footjoy Tour Alpha which is one of the best golf shoes we have ever tested and it got the full five stars in our review.

Based on our testing, we found that the Tour Alpha provides the optimum blend of comfort and performance, specifically stability through excellent heel support and grip that allows you to swing freely on maximum power. The clean, premium styling will have a broad appeal, as will the snug fit and choice of three colors.
