The New York Giants began their offseason program on Monday with their voluntary workout sessions and that means press conferences from the coaches and players.
First-year head coach Brian Daboll fielded questions from the Giants’ beat pool via Zoom which, to those who cover the team, seemed like a ‘deja vu’ moment.
We’ve heard a lot of the same schtick from his three predecessors, who all lasted just two seasons each with the club.
Daboll did have some unique points, however. He revealed that he was still ‘getting to know’ the players and that he held a 20-minute team meeting to kick things off.
His message to the players for the workout period was to ‘win each day. Improve from one day to the next. Team-first attitude.” He also told them that they all have a ‘clean slate’ and should wear Giants gear while in the building.
Brian Daboll said he discussed “attire and dress code” with the players. “It’s casual,” he said. What does “casual” mean?
“Wear Giants gear and come in ready to go.”— Paul Schwartz (@NYPost_Schwartz) April 4, 2022
Daboll would not reveal who was present and who was not and said he visited every position room in the building to familiarize himself.
Brian Daboll said they had a “packed house” today, but stressed this portion of the offseason program is voluntary. He didn’t answer when asked if James Bradberry is in attendance.
I wouldn’t expect Bradberry to attend anything voluntary with his future uncertain.

Daboll is involved in the personnel process and is aware of the Giants’ low ‘batting average’ the past decade.
Daboll was asked about his player evaluation, “I’ve been coaching or evaluating players for a long time, you’re going to have some hits, you’re going to have some misses… you do your due diligence, you explain what you see, we know what we’re looking for” #Giants

#Giants #Daboll on draft – "ideally, we're going to try to select the best player available"….coaches will sit with the scouts next week…."let's not reach for a position just because it's a position of need to build our roster"

Daboll also said the incoming power structure is aware of the unusually high number of injuries the team has suffered the past 8-10 years and have held meetings about how they can keep the players healthy.
