Brian Daboll Brushes Off Reporter’s Implicit Tommy DeVito-Tom Brady Comparison

Even in a season crawling with NFL backup quarterbacks who emerged from nowhere, Giants gunslinger Tommy DeVito stands alone.

One year ago, DeVito was on the verge of polishing off a fairly unremarkable 2022 season with Illinois after a four-year career at Syracuse. His numbers were decent, but hardly gaudy: 15 touchdowns against four interceptions to go with six scores on the ground.

Now, DeVito is the Giants’ current answer under center, winning three of four games as a starter. His play has dealt a 5–8 New York team back into the playoff picture in a mediocre NFC.

On Tuesday , a reporter ventured an implicit comparison of DeVito to the most successful midseason replacement quarterback—future Hall of Famer Tom Brady. Respectfully but firmly, Daboll cut them off.

"We're four games in," the Giants coach said.

Daboll, as the reporter noted, was a defensive assistant for the Patriots from 2000-01 and had a front-row seat to the quarterback switch that changed history.

DeVito's next chance to add to his budding legend comes on Sunday, when New York visits the Saints.
