Brian Cox joked he's too busy to cry over the end of Succession like some of his co-stars.
The Dundee-born actor, 76, spoke to Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond on This Morning on Monday as he promoted the fourth and final season of the hugely popular HBO series. Brian plays media mogul and patriarch Logan Roy, as his children fight for his affection and, ultimately the control, of his media company.
Succession has been met with rave reviews over the years, as the cast and crew have had differing reactions to the show coming to an end. During his ITV appearance, Brian savagely joked his co-star Sarah Snook who plays on-screen daughter Shiv Roy, was "stupid" for not realising the programme was finishing after this season.
Alison asked Brian how he felt now the hit series was wrapping up at its peak, to which he replied: "I love it. Oh god I'm so glad it's over. Too many television shows live well past their cell-by-date and this won't happen to our show because of the integrity of Jessie Armstrong."
He added: "I think it was tough for him to bring it to a close but I know a lot of people, I mean Sarah Snook didn't even know it was finishing until the last read-through. I mean, she had been very stupid not to realise it was going to finish."
When asked if his co-stars were emotional that the show was coming to an end, Brian quipped: "Oh yeah, apparently they've all been crying and all that nonsense. I really don't understand it."
"I will not cry over it, you know I've got a lot of work I'm doing. I'm very busy. I don't in any way underestimate this show, it's amazing. It's a bit tough going - I've just been in Sweden and Madrid last week doing all kinds of things."
Speaking of Logan Roy, he added: "It's a bit scary how iconic this character has become."
Succession star Kieran Culkin, who plays Brian's on-screen son Ronan Roy, said previously that while the Scots actor was happy to end the show, he would have liked another season.
“I think Brian [Cox, who plays patriarch Logan Roy] had mixed feelings about it, too,” Culkin says. “He was more like, ‘Well, good, we’ve done it.’ But I bet if you said, ‘Would you like a fifth?’ He’d want to.”
