Typically, a linebacker who’s about to turn 32 doesn’t get a five-year, $50 million deal in free agency. But Bobby Wagner isn’t your typical linebacker.
The Rams felt comfortable giving the six-time All-Pro a long-term contract, agreeing to terms on a deal Thursday. And while he may have lost a step from his younger years, Wagner is still one of the top linebackers in the NFL and makes the Rams significantly better.
Brian Baldinger does an excellent job breaking down film and he was quick to share some clips of Wagner after the news of their contract agreement dropped. Baldinger highlighted five plays that show Wagner can still play at a high level, giving examples of his instincts against the run and his awareness in zone coverage when defending the pass.
Take a look at Baldy’s breakdown below.

The 49ers have been Los Angeles’ kryptonite in recent years, with the exception of the NFC title game when the Rams finally took them down after losing six straight to San Francisco. The Rams have had trouble with San Francisco’s rushing attack, failing to plug up holes and wrap up ball carriers.
Wagner will make a big difference in that regard, especially with the elusive and athletic Trey Lance taking over at quarterback. The clips that Baldinger highlighted show what type of impact the Rams can expect from Wagner.
