Brewdog co-founder calls work-life balance a concept for 'job haters'

ONE of the Brewdog founders declared that the idea of work-life balance is an invention by "job haters" on his social media channel.

On his Instagram account, Brewdog co-founder James Watt shared his view that work-life balance is only necessary for those who dislike their job.

“I think the whole concept of work-life balance was invented by people who hate the job they do, so if you love what you do, you don’t need work-life balance," he said.

Last year, Watt stepped down from the company to take time off to travel and spend time with family and friends.

His fiancé Georgia Toffolo, who featured in Made in Chelsea, shared his view as she stood next to Watt in the Instagram video.

“If you love what you do, you don’t need work-life balance, you need work-life integration,” Watt said in the video.

His fiancée Toffolo continued: “It’s so true, when I met James I was quite taken aback at how aligned we are in the important stuff and one of those things was a lack of work-life balance in a really beautiful way.

“Work knows no bounds. Constantly in our home, we are working but we do things we find incredibly fulfilling and we also have a supportive other half that loves that high-octane obsession with what we do.

“I’ve always known I would end up with someone like James because it would not work otherwise. If someone was saying ‘you need to knock off now’ I would be thinking ‘what, do you not like my business? Do you not believe in me? Are we not striving towards the same thing?’.

“We are so scarily similar and you say it more often than me because I don’t want to admit but we are wired up from the tip of our fingers to the top of our head to our toes and we are really similar and when you find someone you click with and you’ve got business alignment in a way that we have when even at the weekend when we’ve got the children we sit around the table and come up with business ideas.

“That’s amazing, what a great thing for James’ little girls but you need to be appreciative and encourage that because if you have someone who isn’t into it, then it doesn’t work.”
