When he was a quarterback, Brett Favre was never shy about attacking and counter-attacking. Of course, Favre ended his career with 336 interceptions, more than anybody else in pro football history, so things don’t always go the ways in which he would have liked.
Now, Favre is counter-attacking in a more serious matter. He is suing former NFL players and current talking heads Pat McAfee and Shannon Sharpe for “defamatory allegations” regarding Favre’s role in an alleged welfare scam in the state of Mississippi.
Favre is also suing Mississippi state auditor Shad White.
‘Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee tried to further their careers by making baseless defamatory allegations against Brett Favre,” a Favre spokesperson said, via DailyMail.com.
Sharpe has called Favre a “sleazeball” for his purported role in the scam, and McAfee said that Favre was “stealing from the poor people of Mississippi.”
Shad White is presumably being sued for a statement he made to CNN on September 15, 2022.
‘We know that Mr. Favre not only knew that he was receiving money from this non-profit which was funded by taxpayer dollars,” White said. “We know that the funding for that was a sham, and we know that he knows that too.”
Per the Daily Mail, Favre is seeking nominal and general damages from all three, “including compensation for injury to Favre’s character and reputation.” as well as unspecified punitive or exemplary damages.
