Brentford vs Manchester City Preview: Prediction, Team News, Lineups

Manchester City return to Premier League action with a trip to the English capital to take on Brentford on Tuesday, and we’ve got the latest team news and confirmed lineups included in our preview ahead of the action.

Brentford vs Manchester City Preview

Out of form Brentford welcome reigning Premier League champions Manchester City to the Gtech Community Stadium on Tuesday night, where the Cityzens will be hoping to extend their winning run to four straight matches.

Pep Guardiola’s side secured a mighty 8-0 win over Salford in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, in which James McAtee netted a hat-trick, Jeremy Doku scored twice, and Divin Mubama, Nico O’Reilly and Jack Grealish grabbed a goal apiece.

The result followed on from wins over Leicester City and West Ham in the league, with City now unbeaten in four successive matches across all competitions. It marks an end to their torrid run of form between the end of October and the end of December, where they won just one match in 13.

They head into Gameweek 21 in sixth place in the English top-flight table, 12 points adrift of leaders Liverpool and two points behind fourth place Chelsea, while Brentford are seven points behind in 11th place.

The Bees suffered a bitterly disappointing 1-0 defeat to Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle in their cup clash over the weekend, which means they have now won just one of their last seven matches.

Despite this, last time out in the league, they recorded a comfortable 5-0 win over bottom of the table Southampton, where star man Bryan Mbeumo shone with two goals and an assist on the south coast.

Manchester City claimed a narrow 2-1 victory over Brentford when the pair last met, a Gameweek 4 clash in mid-September, in which Erling Haaland netted a brace to turn the game on its head after Yoane Wissa’s first minute opener.

Brentford Team News

The hosts are without Josh Dasilva (knee), Ethan Pinnock (thigh), Kristoffer Ajer (ankle), Aaron Hickey (thigh), Igor Thiago (knee), Gustavo Nunes (back) and Ryan Trevitt (Achilles) due to their respective injury concerns.

In more positive news, Rico Henry made his return against Plymouth at the weekend, featuring for the first time in close to four months, and Ben Mee is also available after missing the last three through injury.

Manchester City Team News

As for City, Rodri (knee), Oscar Bobb (leg) and Ruben Dias (calf) are ruled out, while John Stones (ankle) is also expected to miss out.

Kyle Walker missed the cup clash against Salford at the weekend, and he could miss the trip to Brentford too, with Guardiola confirming that the England international has asked to leave the club in favour of making a move abroad.

Brentford vs Manchester City Confirmed Lineups

Brentford Lineup:

Flekken; Roerslev, Collins, Van den Berg, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Jensen, Janelt; Damsgaard; Mbeumo, Wissa

Manchester City Lineup:

Ortega; Nunes, Akanji, Ake, Gvardiol; De Bruyne, Kovacic, Silva; Foden, Haaland, Savinho

Brentford vs Manchester City Prediction

The UK’s best football betting sites are heavily favouring Manchester City to claim three points in West London on Tuesday evening, and we at SportsCasting agree, as we’re predicting a 3-1 win for the Cityzens.

As previously mentioned, City have turned their fortunes around in recent weeks, winning each of their last three across all competitions while going unbeaten in each of their last four. Brentford have gone in the opposite direction, winning just one of their last seven matches, including defeats in three of their last five in the league.

For this reason, we see Guardiola’s men prevailing in fairly comfortable fashion at the Gtech Community Stadium in Gameweek 21, however the in-form Mbeumo certainly has the capability to cause problems for the visitors.

Prediction: Brentford 1-3 Manchester City
