Ivan Toney is facing the prospect of a lengthy ban, after admitting multiple breaches of the Football Association's gambling rules.
The Brentford striker was charged in November with 232 alleged breaches of betting rules. He was hit with a further 30 alleged breaches a month later.
Toney will now face a disciplinary panel and could be suspended before the end of the season. Brentford are now expecting to lose their talismanic frontman, who has scored 14 Premier League goals in 21 games this season, for an extended period.
In December 2020, Kieran Trippier was banned for 10 weeks by the FA after he was found to have broken betting rules.
In 2017, Joey Barton was banned for 18 months — later reduced to 13 on appeal — after admitting placing 1,260 football-related bets over a 10-year period.
Toney's alleged breaches took place between February 2017 and January 2021.
During that time he represented four clubs: Scunthorpe, Wigan, Peterborough and his current club, Brentford.
