Brentford Striker Ivan Toney Completes Transfer To Saudi Club Al Ahli

Ivan Toney

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has completed a transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, as announced by both clubs on Friday. The deal, reportedly worth £40 million ($53 million), sees Toney signing a lucrative three-year contract with Al Ahli.

Toney, who had attracted interest from top Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, had been a key player for Brentford. Despite efforts to retain him, the club decided to sell the striker as he entered the final year of his contract.

Brentford's head coach, Thomas Frank, praised Toney's contributions during his time at the club, highlighting his impressive goal-scoring record of 72 goals in 141 appearances. Toney played a crucial role in Brentford's promotion to the Premier League in the 2020-21 season.

However, Toney faced a setback in May 2023 when he was suspended by the English Football Association for eight months due to multiple breaches of betting regulations. The striker was later diagnosed as a gambling addict, leading to a reduction in his ban.

Throughout his tenure at Brentford, Toney showcased his skills not only as a prolific goalscorer but also as a valuable team player and leader. His departure marks the end of an era for the club, as they bid farewell to a player who made a significant impact on and off the pitch.
