Brentford secure permanent signing of Kevin Schade from Freiburg

Brentford have announced the permanent signing of winger Kevin Schade from Freiburg after the 21-year-old spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan with the Premier League side. The London-based club confirmed the acquisition in a statement released on Monday.

Schade has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, committing to Brentford until June 2028. While the financial details of the transfer were not disclosed, The Athletic reported that the fee for the winger amounted to £22 million ($27.59 million), establishing him as Brentford's most expensive signing.

During his loan spell at Brentford, the young attacker made a significant impact, featuring in 19 matches and contributing to the team's ninth-placed finish in the league. His performances on the pitch, coupled with his professionalism off it, impressed the club's management.

Brentford's director of football, Phil Giles, expressed his satisfaction with Schade's contributions and highlighted the positive impact the winger has had on the team. Giles stated, "We have all been pleased with Kevin's contribution so far, both on the pitch and his professionalism off it, so to have him with us now until 2028 is fantastic for the club."

Giles also emphasised the desire for further progress, both for Schade individually and for Brentford as a collective. The club eagerly anticipates the challenges that lie ahead and aims to build on the positive trajectory they have been on.

Schade's performances have caught the attention of Germany's national team coach, Hansi Flick, who called up the young winger for friendlies against Peru and Belgium in March. Schade made his debut as a substitute against Peru and provided an assist in the match against Belgium, showcasing his potential at the international level.

This signing marks another notable acquisition for Brentford, as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season. The club had previously secured the services of goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Freiburg earlier this month.
