Brentford investigating Ivan Toney's X-rated outburst as star striker sparks outrage

Brentford are investigating after a video of star striker Ivan Toney appearing to say "f*** Brentford" leaked on social media.

The £30million-rated forward is currently in Dubai with club teammate Bryan Mbeumo during the Premier League's winter break.

Toney, 25, has become one of Brentford's biggest stars after joining the club from Peterborough United in August 2020, scoring 31 Championship goals to fire them to promotion last season.

The video has gone viral on social media, with a number of Bees fans demanding a response from the player.

"Brentford FC are aware of the video and are investigating," a spokesperson for the Premier League side told Mirror Football on Friday evening.

Toney, who has scored seven goals in all competitions this season, is yet to respond.

Some Brentford fans have expressed their disappointment at the striker for his alleged comments, although few have turned on him.

"Toney needs to be punished for what he did," wrote one supporter on Twitter. "Absolutely no way can he go around slagging off his club in public, even if it was a laugh with his mates.

"But we need to remember all the good he has done for this club and the performances he's put in."

Another tweeted: "No one cares what Ivan Toney said, move on."

Brentford manager Thomas Frank will be hoping to quickly put the incident to bed and focus on keeping the team in the Premier League.

The Bees are 14th in the table, eight points above Newcastle in 18th having played two games more.

As well as Brentford and Peterborough, Toney has represented Northampton Town, Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town, Scunthorpe United, Newcastle and Wigan Athletic during his career.

Discussing Toney in September, Frank said: "He’s faced a lot of setbacks in his career and that’s where you get tested on your resilience. And he’s shown himself to be very resilient, and he’s got that tough mentality and belief.

"Ivan is very intelligent, because he’s reflecting, and he deserves a lot of praise himself for also coming into a well-run club and listening to all the small bits and adding extra layers to his development and performance."

Frank went on to say: "He’s humble, calm, but with a mindset of a lion."

Frank and his assistant Brian Riemer recently signed contract extensions to stay at the Brentford Community Stadium until the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

"I feel privileged to be a part of the success we have had as a group at this fantastic club," said Frank earlier this month. "I have been here for five years and am very pleased that I have the opportunity to be here for longer.

"I have been part of building the club over the past five years and have enjoyed working with a brilliant staff and unbelievable group of players.

"Everyone can see they have a fantastic work ethic that they show every day. On top of that we have a unity and togetherness from the top to the bottom and the bottom to the top."
