Brentford: Bryan Mbeumo injury latest as Thomas Frank issues fitness update

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank is wary of rushing Bryan Mbeumo back too soon amid serious concerns over injuries in the squad.

The Bees have seen the likes of Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey, Ben Mee, Ethan Pinnock, Josh Dasilva, Kevin Schade and Mbeumo all sidelined with significant injuries this season. Ivan Toney was suspended for the first half of the season.

It has hampered the club progress, dropping from a top-half finish last season to 15th place, just five points above the drop zone.

Brentford need goals and Mbeumo is nearing a return, but Frank does not want to put the player at risk against fellow strugglers Burnley.

“He’s very close,” Frank revealed. “I have a decision to make, to maybe involve him in the squad this weekend. He’s been on the grass for a week, he looks good, and he’s one of our best players.

"I need to find out if it is just a touch too early, or to bring him for the game against Burnley.

"He was on track for a really remarkable season. Everyone wants those good numbers for offensive players in terms of goals and assists. We have missed his one-on-one actions and runs in behind."

He said: "We have definitely had too many injuries. We are looking into it. We are having a very open discussion with the medical department. They have been working very hard to get players back. We all want to minimise injuries."

Frank confirmed Norgaard would not be joining up with Denmark over the international break, but hoped the defender would not end up being a long-term absentee.

Full-back Sergio Reguilon should be available following a minor hamstring issue.
