Brennan Johnson stuns Adama Traore ahead of crunch clash between Nottingham Forest and Wolves

Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson is the fastest forward in the Premier League so far this season, it has been revealed.

The academy graduate has been a standout player for Steve Cooper ’s side in their first season back in the top division for over 20 years. After impressing in his first full season in the Championship last season, Johnson has done the same with the step up to the Premier League.

In his 27 games in the competition, the 21-year-old has scored seven goals and provided two assists, including two braces against relegation rivals Everton and Leicester City earlier this year. He has caused defenders problems with his speed and runs in behind.

It has now been revealed that the Forest man has actually been recorded as the fastest forward in the Premier League so far this season. As reported by the Mirror , Johnson is ahead of the likes of Erling Haaland, Marcus Rashford and Adama Traore, having recorded a speed of 36.7 kilometres per hour.

That speed actually sees Johnson beat every other player in the Premier League too, with Chelsea January signing Mykhaylo Mudryk the second fastest with a speed of 36.63 KmH. Forest will be hoping that the speed will help in what could be a nail-biting fight for survival between now and the end of the season.

Forest face a crucial clash against Wolves at the City Ground on Saturday, but in what could be a big blow for Cooper and his team, Johnson is a doubt for the game. The forward missed international action with Wales over the two-week break due to an ongoing groin injury.

These figures will come as a shock to Wolves' speedster Adama Traore, who once said of himself: "Maybe there is no player faster than me in the world. But it’s only good when you do crossing or shooting at the end.”

Cooper has now confirmed that Johnson is being assessed daily and is a doubt for upcoming games. The Forest boss rating his availability as ‘inconclusive’ .

“Brennan is not back to full fitness,” Cooper said. “It’s something we are assessing on a daily basis and are having to manage. Like some of the other guys, it’s a little bit inconclusive at the moment, in terms of availability for the next games, with us having three in a week.

“It’s a day by day situation, not just with him but with a few of the boys. That’s pretty normal for this time of the season, after so many games and training sessions; it’s inevitable you pick up some injuries, some niggles and some knocks that can fluctuate day to day. It’s an ongoing process, not just with him but with a few of the lads - but that’s normal for the time of the season.”
