Brennan Johnson sent realistic Nottingham Forest message as contract talks revealed

Nottingham Forest supporters are pleased that the club are being active in their attempts to convince Brennan Johnson to sign a contract extension in the East Midlands.

Johnson's father, and former Reds striker, David, has revealed to the Garibaldi Red podcast that a "very good chat" took place with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis in London last week about the 20-year-old's future at the City Ground.

The Wales international's contract expires at the end of next season and has already attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs so far this season.

Here is a selection of the reaction from our Facebook page and the NottinghamshireLive comments section to this exclusive insight from Johnson...

Errol Flynn: We need to be realistic, as much as it hurts, he's going to the Premier League, hopefully, we are too (!!!), but, if not, let's just hope there's a whacking great big buy out in the contract! Got to be worth more than the £30million that others have gone for from the Championship.

Paul Smith: He’s only young, just one more season with us, it won’t do his career any harm.

Stelios Andreou: He should stay for two years to help us to get to the Premier League and then will be worth 60 or 70 million.

Suffolk Red: A positive sign at least. We should make him our highest-paid player if he signs but it's up to the owner and manager if they think taking £15-£20m is better for us overall. I'd be very surprised if we got promoted this season but should be in a really strong position if not then next year.

Lucknow: Thanks for the interview, David. Honest, decent and sensible. Bet you’re proud of your lad. We know that you’ve got Brennan’s best interests at heart and that you love the club too. Let’s get promoted so this isn’t even an issue.

Joseph Michael: I think, either way, it bodes well for Forest. Even if we can't do promotion this year, if we keep Cooper and Brennan goes to the Premier League without us, I feel like Cooper could do wonders with the money. I'd prefer to play Premier League football next season though, especially with play-off money and Brennan sticking with us.

Danny Pick: £30million buyout clause that only activates if we don't make it to Prem this year.
