Brennan Johnson reveals why he turned down Nottingham Forest January transfer exit

Nottingham Forest ace Brennan Johnson has revealed why he turned down moves away from the City Ground in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old Forest star played a crucial role in the Reds' promotion to the Premier League, contributing 16 goals and nine assists in 46 Championship appearances. Back in January, however, he was the subject of a bid from Brentford.

The Bees were to pay a club record fee of more than £15m for Johnson. Everton, West Ham United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have also previously been monitoring the Wales international. Discussing the possibility of a move away six months ago, Johnson told Sgorio: "For me it's always just about playing regularly and getting loads of football because you learn more like that.

"In January there were a few options for me to leave, but I did see something special in the team as well. I'm not saying I called us going up, but I did think we had a good chance of getting in the play-offs and I knew anything could happen from there. It's so good that it's worked out like that."

It has been a whirlwind few days for Johnson having won promotion at Wembley Stadium on May 29 and then helping Wales qualify for their first World Cup in 64 years.

Discussing the manic week, Johnson said: "It's really hard to take in. Especially with the World Cup only being a couple of days ago and promotion with Forest a week ago. It's all happened quite fast so I haven't really had too much time to take it in. Once I do I'm sure I'll look back on it with such great memories. It's been a really great season."
