Brenden Aaronson undergoing medical at Leeds United ahead of £25m transfer

Leeds United target Brenden Aaronson is currently undergoing a medical ahead of a big money move to the club from Red Bull Salzburg. The 21-year-old was coached by Jesse Marsch at his former side in Austria, but is rumoured to be on the verge of signing for Leeds United. According to the Athletic, the initial fee is believed to be £25 million.

Leeds tried and failed to sign the USA international in January but the Whites were turned away. Now however, it seems that the deal will finally get over the line, with a deal potentially being announced within the coming hours.

It will be Marsch's first signing since replacing Marcelo Bielsa, as he looks to rebuild and mould his Leeds United squad heading into his first full season after keeping Leeds in the Premier League.

During his tenure at the club, Marsch has spoken on several occasions about the fact that his team hadn't been able to move closer towards his tactical style. The Leeds manager suggested that was due to the high-stress situation of a relegation battle and with many of the players so used to playing in Marcelo Bielsa's unique style, having done so for several seasons.

Aaronson is an attacking midfielder who can play off the flanks, but has usually figured in the number 10 role - suggesting Leeds could move to a 4-2-3-1 - a popular European formation.

Aaronson has scored nine goals in 45 outings in Austria at the age of just 21, and has previously been linked with a number of top European clubs.
