Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been left baffled by Greg Berhalter's decision to bench Brenden Aaronson at the World Cup. The Whites playmaker is yet to start at the tournament, coming off the bench against Wales and England in their opening two games of Group B.
It's come as a surprise to Leeds fans who watch the midfielder regularly. Since his arrival at Elland Road, Aaronson has been one of the more consistent performers.
If the American were able to add more to his game in the final third, then he'd be a threat against most sides in the division and around the globe.

“I’m surprised. I’m really surprised, actually, because of his engine and his work rate,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News. “But you cannot criticise this USA team because they’ve not only had two decent results but two decent performances as well.
“He’s not playing as much as I’d expect him to play, which surprises me really because he’s been doing very well. When he has come on for the USA, he looks good.
“He plays a very similar role to the one he does at Leeds but maybe a bit more disciplined by not closing down as freely as Leeds do. Both of the American players have impressed me at this World Cup for Leeds.”
