Brendan Rodgers 'set' to hand fringe Celtic man league debut vs Hearts

Backup Celtic goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo is reportedly 'set' to make his Scottish Premiership debut this weekend.

The Finnish stopper joined the Parkhead club from Aston Villa last summer.

Sinisalo has only featured once for Brendan Rodgers' side since the move, however, as he completed 90 minutes in a routine 5-0 victory over Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup last month.

With uncertainty reigning over Kasper Schmeichel's fitness after he picked up an injury with Denmark, SunSport claims Rodgers will hand Sinisalo his maiden league start on Saturday as Heart of Midlothian travel to Glasgow's east end.

The 23-year-old was recently away with Finland on international duty, although was an unused substitute for their World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Lithuania.

He now looks set to be thrust into Scottish Premiership action as Celtic look to bounce back from a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Rangers a week and a half ago.

Before Sinisalo made his debut in green and white at the beginning of February, Rodgers couldn't have spoken more highly of the stopper: "Ville’s a great boy," he said.

"He knew coming here, he's got a real top class goalkeeper to learn from. So, sometimes, you have to invest your time into learning. But we took him in. We'd seen him play. He's obviously represented Finland as well. [He's a] very, very talented young goalkeeper.

"He has come in, been patient, and understands the role at this point."
