Dumbfounded Robbie Savage has branded fervent speculation surrounding Brendan Rodgers' future as "absolute nonsense".
The Leicester City boss is the betting favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job after a disappointing season mired by injuries and poor form.
Rodgers has earned widespread acclaim for his work with the Foxes since leaving Celtic in 2019, which includes an FA Cup triumph and narrowly missing out on the top four in consecutive seasons.
But the 21/22 campaign has been sobering for a side languishing in mid table following their latest defeat to Liverpool on Thursday night.
But Savage insists any talk over Rodgers' long-term future at the King Power Stadium is premature and the Irishman must be allowed a chance to rebuild ahead of next season.
Speaking on BT Sport, he said: "It’s absolute nonsense, isn’t it?
"Two fifth placed finishes, an FA Cup victory, rebuilding squads, the recruitment - surely he has credit in the bank for what he has achieved at Leicester.
"He needs his best players on the pitch on a regular basis to compete. To compete for Champions League, Leicester City - they were in League One not so long ago. He’s done amazing."
