Brendan Rodgers responds to Celtic boos post-St Johnstone

Brendan Rodgers has issued his response to the jeers his Celtic team received after today's goalless draw against St Johnstone.

The Scottish champions were frustrated by the Premiership strugglers in Glasgow's east end.

As expected, Celtic dominated the game and created numerous opportunities to score, but they failed to take one.

Saints take a point back up the road to Perth as the Hoops dropped points on home soil ahead of next week's derby against Rangers.

It comes after they were knocked out of the League Cup at the last 16 stage by Kilmarnock last week.

As the players and Rodgers lapped the park at full time this afternoon, the Green Brigade directed a 'good deal of anger' towards them.

There were audible boos heard from that section of Parkhead.

And it's something that Rodgers "totally understands" their frustration.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, he said: "I totally understand it. When you play to that performance level and get a result at home against any team, you're playing a team with the greatest respect that haven't won many games and has conceded goals, to not score or get three points is clearly not what we want or the supporters expect.

"You play or manage a club like this here you have to have that personality to gain results. If not the flak will come your way and you have to take that and work to make it better. It's early in the season but there's lots of work to do."

Asked if his team deserved all three points, he added: "No, I don't think so. There was enough effort from the players and their keeper makes a couple of really good saves but overall I didn't think we played at the tempo we'd want to or have that bit of craft you need to break down a team that's low. St Johnstone deserved something from the game for their attitude. It was a disappointing result and performance.

"We had chances but we have to show that imagination and quality to penetrate and sadly we weren't able to do that."
