Determined Brendan Rodgers is desperate to keep hold of contract rebel Youri Tielemans in January but admits Leicester’s resolve could be tested.
The Belgian midfielder, a free agent next summer when his Foxes deal expires, was a £40million club-record signing from Monaco in 2019 and is a long-term target for Arsenal. Ahead of facing Manchester City today, Rodgers said: “We don’t want to be offloading our best players. There has been no hint or indication we need to generate money and move him on. My focus has been on working with him and getting out of the situation we are in.”
Tielemans added another superb goal to his collection in Sunday’s 4-0 thrashing of Wolves, which moved Leicester out of the relegation zone. Rodgers added: “He’s been fully focused. He doesn’t let that affect him. He is a top-class professional.”
