Brendan Rodgers gives Notts County seal of approval after win over Leicester City

Notts County enjoyed a 2-1 win over Premier League side Leicester City as they continued their pre-season programme in encouraging fashion.

Kairo Mitchell and Aden Baldwin got the goals as Luke Williams' team capitalised on the weakness the Foxes showed from dead ball situations last season. After the game, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers gave the Magpies his seal of approval.

"It was a good exercise around the objectives of the game, which is based around fitness. We're playing against a good side who will do well in the National League," he told LCFC TV. "I know Luke well so it was a really good exercise and I'm pleased the players got through it. We want to be better with the ball and have more fluency."

Leicester fielded the likes of Wesley Fofana and Patson Daka, while England international Harvey Barnes opened the scoring at Leicester's impressive Seagrave training base in sweltering conditions. Mitchell levelled from a corner, capitalising on City keeper Daniel Iversen spilling the cross.

Notts got the winner on 78 minutes when Cal Roberts saw his free-kick met by Baldwin with a commanding header.

Notts County (first 60 mins): Slocombe; Cameron, Rawlinson, Bajrami; McGregor, Nemane; Francis, Palmer, O'Brien, Rodrigues, Mitchell. (Last 30 mins): Brooks; Chicksen, Baldwin, Brindley; Munakandafa, Adebayo-Rowling; Morton (T), McGregor, Roberts, Austin, Edwards
