Brendan Rodgers 'embarrassed' as former Celtic boss rages at Leicester FA Cup flops and threatens to wield axe

Former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was left embarrassed after watching his Leicester City side sent crashing out of the FA Cup in a shock exit.

And the Northern Irishman has threatened to chop his flops as the warned they are playing for their futures at the King Power Stadium.

Championship side and Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest sent the holders spinning out at the fourth round in a as their trophy defence went down with a whimper.

Rodgers was left seething and openly wondered if some of his players were up to scratch as he told an angry fanbase he was left red-faced.

Last season's Wembley success over Chelsea is now a distant memory and with the Foxes also well out of the European hunt in the Premier League he insists some of his stars must show they deserve to stay at the club.

Rodgers said: “There are players here that may have achieved everything they can.

“It’s a lack of hunger. I said to the players that for the first time since I’ve been here, I’ve been embarrassed. I feel for the supporters.

“That’s why a lot of these players aren’t top players because they can’t sustain it.

“That’s where I admire the really top players who can keep that hunger and desire - no matter how much they achieve.

“I always judge it on the physicality of a team - the pressing and the aggression. When you stop getting it, you can’t quite get there and your time could be up.”

He added: “There are a lot of players here who, between now and the end of the season, need to prove they are still worthy of being here.

“Until then they’ve got to look at themselves in the mirror and fight like hell to prove they’re good enough.

“They bolstered their legend as a player. They won the FA Cup - and that might be it.”
