Brendan Rodgers coy on Wesley Fofana transfer as Chelsea reach £80m agreement with Leicester

Brendan Rodgers was reluctant to comment on the future of Wesley Fofana following Chelsea's 2-1 win over Leicester City. The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer as Thomas Tuchel looks to bolster his defence following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

football.london understand that the two clubs have reached an agreement over the signing of Fofana in a deal which could become a world-record fee. It's said that the Blues returned with a fourth bid this week worth a guaranteed £70million, with further add-ons seeing the transfer exceed £80million.

It's also understood that the Frenchman has grown restless amid the saga and has felt as if the Foxes were trying to price him out of an exit from the King Power Stadium. Fofana is believed to have already agreed personal terms over a move to west London.

With a move on the cards for Fofana, Rodgers was quizzed on the defender's future in his post-match press conference. The Leicester boss said: "If there is anything I'm sure the club will announce it."

Rodgers was then asked whether Fofana has already played his last game for the club. The defender has been omitted from the Foxes' first-team since he seemingly bid farewell to the travelling Leicester fans at the Emirates Stadium.

"We shall see," Rodgers added. "No doubt when the window shuts everything will calm down. Very difficult, challenging window, no doubt.

"We’ve been unable to add. Speculation on our top players, no doubt it's been difficult. It will shut Thursday, everything becomes calm again and we can move on. Until that point, we have to keep fighting."

Tuchel was asked as well to comment on speculation regarding a potential move which brings Fofana to Chelsea. The Blues boss kept his cards close to his chest and simply said: "I can’t tell you anything about that."
