Brendan Rodgers confirms Chelsea offers 'nowhere near' Wesley Fofana valuation amid third bid

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Chelsea have made two bids for defender Wesley Fofana this summer, but stated they are "nowhere near" the valuation they have set on the youngster. football.london understands that the Blues are preparing a third bid for the 21-year-old later this week.

It comes as Thomas Tuchel looks to continue bolstering his squad while the transfer window is still open. With just a few weeks left, the German coach has already made a plethora of additions for both the present team and the future, though more moves are expected before the start of September.

Discussing the transfer market after the 1-0 victory over Everton in their Premier League opener, Tuchel said: "We can add, but we are open for everything. We can use new energy, fresh legs and fresh input. I think we could use some more input and some more quality."

One particular area of interest this summer has been the defensive third, with Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella both joining the club to add quality and depth to the squad. A number of other targets have been and gone this summer, from Jules Kounde to Milan Skriniar.

Fofana is the latest on the shortlist, with the Blues looking to test Leicester's resolve with offers for the Frenchman. So far though, they are yet to cave, despite the apparent standstill they face in the transfer market.

Brendan Rodgers told the media on Thursday: "There was two [bids from Chelsea], but nowhere near what the club would consider. We’re not looking to sell. Naturally if there’s interest from other clubs, that is looked at by the club."

With a third bid set to be lodged, it remains to be seen how far either team will go to get what they desire. With the days ticking down, Chelsea have time to land Fofana, but they may have to look at other targets should they fail to convince the Foxes to sell before the end of the window.
