Brendan Rodgers confirms ace to start Chelsea vs Leicester City clash as three Foxes ruled out

Leicester City's boss has confirmed that Kasper Schmeichel will start for the Foxes against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.

The Denmark international had to settle for a place on the bench against Watford as Danny Ward made his first Premier League appearance since joining the club in 2018/19. The Welsh stopper will be back on the bench for the trip to Chelsea, with Schmeichel set to play the final two matches of the season.

Rodgers said in his press conference: "Kasper will play. I said the other day the plan was for Kasper to play in the final two games. Unfortunately, Danny couldn't play against Norwich, but he proved he's an outstanding goalkeeper [vs. Watford]. His stature in goal in the game was excellent. I've told Kasper he will play against Chelsea and Southampton."

While the former Celtic and Liverpool coach has confirmed one to change to his starting XI, he is not expecting to make many other adjustments. Ryan Bertrand, Wilfried Ndidi and Hamza Choudhury are set to be out of the clash, while Youri Tielemans and Ricardo Pereira's availability seem uncertain.

Rodgers said: "Probably just one or two [changes] from the weekend. We'll wait and see tomorrow. Youri's clashed his knee. Hamza is still out. He picked up a groin [tear]. He has been a fantastic player for us this season. He's probably trained more than anyone else.

"You won't have seen too much of him in the games, but he's been a great support for the players. He's had a scan on it, and he has a slight tear there. Papy Mendy should be back in. We had to take him off [at Watford] with illness, and we'll see how Ricardo Pereira is in training and if he's available."
