Brendan Rodgers compares Manchester United vs Liverpool FC to Celtic vs Rangers rivalry

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed Manchester United's rivalry with Liverpool pales in comparison to the Old Firm derby against Rangers.

Rodgers was in charge of Liverpool between July 2012 and October 2015. As manager of the Anfield club, the Northern Irishman faced United on eight occasions in all competitions.

His record was poor as he suffered six defeats during this spell. This could be one of the reasons why he does not rank the rivalry as highly as Celtic's clashes with Rangers.

When asked about his return to Scotland, Rodgers admitted his love for the Glasgow derby. He told Football Scotland: "It is (amazing) and having been involved in Liverpool vs Manchester United and Liverpool vs Everton games that are tough, and even Swansea vs Cardiff was a big derby as well.

"But I have to say, Celtic and Rangers, there's nothing like it. The intensity, the passion, so many reasons as to why it's so tense but when you come out the other side and get the result it's an amazing feeling."

After winning the FA Cup and Community Shield during a four-year stint at Leicester City, Rodgers suffered a tricky final season which saw the Foxes struggle towards the bottom of the league. In April, the 50-year-old was sacked and replaced by Dean Smith on a temporary basis, but he could not prevent their relegation to the Championship.

Rodgers was able to move back to Celtic Park this summer after Ange Postecoglou decided to take the vacant post at Tottenham Hotspur. Despite having left the green half of Glasgow under a cloud when he moved to the East Midlands, Celtic supporters have welcomed him back as he aims to retain the Scottish Premiership once again.
