Brendan Rodgers Celtic return lands 'brilliant' verdict from Ally McCoist but exit will play on mind

Ally McCoist believes Brendan Rodgers returning to Celtic would be a 'brilliant' appointment but reckons his departure first time around may come into his thoughts.

We told this morning how Dermot Desmond has made two personal calls to the 50-year-old about trying to lure him back to Parkhead for a second stint as Ange Postecoglou's successor. The 57-year-old has left following two hugely successful seasons for a crack at the English Premier League with Tottenham as the search to replace him continues.

Rodgers' departure from Celtic for Leicester City left a sour taste in the mouth of many Hoops supporters due to the timing and nature of the exit. Rangers hero McCoist reckons that will be one of the aspects he considers as he mulls over a north of the border.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the pundit said: "He'd be brilliant. I think Brendan is a great coach.

"The only thing I would say is there is a good section of the Celtic support who weren't happy when he left and they think the manner he left in wasn't acceptable.

"I would think that would come into Brendan Rodgers' thoughts, I don't care what anybody says, it would come into Brendan's thoughts.

"Listen, I heard Martin O'Neill talking, if Brendan went back there and they start winning games of football and start winning trophies. That is the most important thing."
