Brendan Rodgers' Celtic checklist before unveiling as 3 points must be ticked off to end waiting game

The Celtic fans had a feeling that Friday would be the big day - but as it stands Brendan Rodgers has not been unveiled as the new boss.

Fans have been glued to their phones with rumours swirling on social media that the Northern Irishman was jetting into Glasgow to have his appointment officially announced - but as time rumbles on it appears that an official announcement will run on into next week for the Scottish Premiership champions with the London Stock Exchange now closed.

As Celtic are a PLC they traditionally notify the Stock Exchange when there is a change in first-team manager - as they did when Ange Postecoglou left for Tottenham. Despite the hold-up for eager fans, the Invincible Treble winning boss remains the clear frontrunner to take over from Postecoglou following after talks with club powerbrokers this week -whether it is today or runs on into next week.

It's a waiting game for the Celtic diehards - but there have been clues on the final agreements that must be sealed before a deal is done. Record Sport puts three key areas that are in focus before an official unveiling.

The backroom team

Brendan Rodgers was desperate to keep John Kennedy on as his assistant - while Ange Postecoglou hoped to take his lieutenant with him to Tottenham. That has reportedly thrown up a delay for the club and Rodgers.

The Scottish champions reportedly put an unveiling on hold until the future of Kennedy is resolved. However, the situation now appears to be moving closer to a conclusion with Postecoglou's backroom staff taking shape.

Chris Davies won't make a return to Celtic Park having worked alongside Rodgers during his first spell in the Scottish Premiership before following him to Leicester. He is to join Spurs', while Ryan Mason is to stay on and make up the Australian's staff - clearing the way for Kennedy to remain at Celtic.

Champions League funding demands

Rodgers has reportedly told Dermot Desmond he wants to make the Scottish champions a force in Europe once again - and wants transfer funding to match his Champions League ambitions. The majority shareholder and soon-to-be boss have been locked in talks all week after he interjected to seal a deal.

The former Foxes boss is said to have told the Celtic board that they must invest in the players and infrastructure necessary to drive the club forward in Europe. The final details of that may still need ironed out to get a deal over the line - but it could benefit the Parkhead punters long-term.

Penning the contract

It will be a bumper deal to brings Rodgers back to the club - and the final details of the major payday may still need ironed out before he puts pen to paper. The deal will reportedly make him the highest paid Celtic manager EVER.

It has been claimed the bumper deal in excess of the £2million-plus salary he received during his first spell in charge. However, he was on £10million-per-year at Leicester so it could still be a big call for the Irishman to make over his financial choice.
