Brendan Rodgers' Celtic bull won't be bought as hardline Hotliner makes stay away Parkhead pledge

Celtic's hunt for a manager continues to be the No.1 topic on the Hotline.

The Parkhead club are sourcing a replacement for Ange Postecoglou after his exit to Spurs. Former boss Brendan Rodgers is among the names in the frame and the prospect of the Irishman returning to the club has brought strong comment. Hugh McInulty, Glasgow, said: “Rodgers jumped ship from the club he’d 'always supported' to join a mid-table Premier League team last time. Tried to take all the backroom staff with him. I don’t believe a word that comes out of that man’s mouth. If he’s the new manager I won’t be back until he’s gone.”

On the flip side, David Bryce, Troon, said: “The Celtic board must do everything in their power to appoint Rodgers as manager. Kjetil Knutsen is my No.1 choice. However I don’t think he wants the job. The football we played under Ange was stale for months and Rodgers is the man to reinvigorate us and make a mark in Europe.”

Martin Baird, Glasgow, took a different tact and said: “Can Celtic fans stoop as low as to accepting Rodgers back after criticising his authenticity, honesty and character, and by giving him a constant tirade of abuse and mockery of his failures since he left? Add that to his uninspiring recent managerial record and why is he even being considered?”

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “While more and more players sign up for Rangers, it seems Celtic will have to ring fence Celtic Park in an attempt to stop more of their staff from doing a runner. After all the big names have distanced themselves from the manager’s job, we are now having to Google the names now.”

Gerry Adams, Coatbridge, wanted to point out: “Just a wee note to tell Muir Fulton from Ayr to get his facts right before he shouts his mouth off about tainted Trebles. Celtic have never won a Treble when Rangers were out of the top league. We just waited until youse came back to show you how it’s done.”

Iain Kilgallon, Dunoon, had a gloomy outlook on the game as he said: “So last weekend failure triumphed yet again. For all the bells and whistles and excitement of the playoff final, the team who has failed all season yet again has been saved by the bell as the team facing them are dead on their feet.

“So instead of the bottom two going down and the top sides who miss out on the title battling it out for a place in the top flight, we reward absolute failure yet again. We can’t be surprised really as having one of the most incompetent men in the history of football at the head of our game in Neil Doncaster, we also have plastic pitches allowed in our top flight,”

William Hutchison, Aberdeen, was not that impressed by the offering on display as Manchester City defeated Inter Milan in the Champions League Final. Instead, he preferred West Ham’s success over Fiorentina three days prior as he explained: “Who would have thought Europa Conference League Final would be 100 per cent better than Champions League Final. What boring game that was. And it didn’t help by the commentators being biased saying this is walk over for Man City.”

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, wanted to make mention of the fight game and said: “Josh Taylor lost his WBO World Championship title in Madison Square Gardens in America. He had more chance of retaining his title in the Botanic Gardens Glasgow. Teofimo Lopez was the better fighter and deserves to be World Champion and Taylor calling him a clown at the weigh-in did come back to haunt him.”
