Brendan Rodgers admits Leicester ‘looking closely’ at selling stars amid Fofana, Maddison and Tielemans links

Brendan Rodgers has opened up on the troubling financial situation facing Leicester as clubs circle for the Foxes’ top stars.

Chelsea are keen on a deal for centre-back Wesley Fofana which could reach £80million while James Maddison has been the subject of bids from Newcastle, with Tottenham interested, and Arsenal are linked with Youri Tielemans.

Leicester are yet to make a single signing this summer and allowed Kasper Schmeichel to leave for Ligue 1 side Nice this week.

Rodgers stated on Thursday that any incomings will have to be funded by “selling assets” - something the club is “looking closely at”.

He told reporters: “I became aware towards the end of the season that the club would have to balance it’s books, then of course that becomes very difficult.

“The club will not look to spend money they don’t have and that is where the club is stable and they will always be very sensible.”

On the possibility of making signings, he added: “Not at this moment, no.

“It would have to be about trimming the squad or selling your assets. That’s something that the club are looking closely at.

“It’s where it’s at. The squad needs to get trimmed. Until that happens, I have to concentrate on the players that I have.”
