Irish acting icon Brendan Gleeson has revealed he asked his son Domhnall for Paul Mescal’s number so he could text him his congratulations on his Oscars nod.
The Dubliner told how he was “very proud” of the Kildare native for his Best Actor nomination for his role in Aftersun.
Brendan said: “I had to ask my son Domhnall for his number. I was very proud of (Mescal).”

Mescal told Variety how crazy it was to receive a text from Gleeson.
The Normal People actor said: “He’s an idol of mine. He was just incredibly generous and was like, ‘We’re gonna make this a fun month.’ That was one of those crazy things.”
Gleeson ran into Mescal at Monday’s Oscar’s luncheon, alongside Colin Farrell.
The trio embraced each other while Farrell said he gave Mescal a “big squeeze” when they first met.
“I spent a long time chatting with him,” Gleeson told Variety.
Farrell, who is up against Mescal for Best Actor, said he unsuccessfully tried to get an email address for Mescal over the last few weeks.
“I hadn’t met Paul before,” Farrell said, adding, “I got to see him today and give him a big squeeze.
“I got his shoulders and I wrapped my arms around him instead. That was even better.”
