Brenda Edwards 'in shock' as she confirms son Jamal died after drug use

Brenda Edwards has penned an emotional message confirming her son's cause of death.

The Loose Women panelist lost her son, music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards, suddenly on February 20 at the age of 31. His cause of death was found at an inquest today, on June 7, at West London Coroner’s Court.

It confirmed that Jamal had died from a cardiac arrhythmia caused by taking recreational drugs. Taking to Twitter, the grieving mum wrote a lengthy and heartfelt statement addressing his cause of death.

She started by thanking friends and fans for their support during such a difficult time for her and her family. The TV presenter continued as she explained how she now knows the reason for her son's death.

Brenda wrote: "I have sadly learned that the cause of Jamal's devastating passing was due to cardiac arrhythmia caused by having taken recreational drugs and I wanted to address this to everyone who loved, admired, and respected my son. Since finding out the news I have been in a state of shock, and I am still trying to process it, but it's so important to me that I do address it as no mother or any loved one should have to go through what Jama's sister, Tanisha, and I have been through since he passed."

She then added that it is “so important” to have more conversations about the “unpredictability of recreational drugs and the impact they can have”. She continued: “It takes just one bad reaction to destroy lives. I would do anything to have my son back, but that is just not possible. So, if I can help save one life, then we will have achieved something.”

Brenda added that she was proud to call Jamal her son and promised that his legacy would live on. She recently set up a charity in his name - The Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust.

Jamal was best known as the founder of production company, SBTV, which helped launched the careers of artists including Ed Sheeran, Jessie J and Dave. At the time of his death, Brenda wrote: "It is with the deepest heartache that I confirm that my beautiful son Jamal Edwards passed away yesterday morning after a sudden illness. Myself, his sister Tanisha and the rest of his family and friends are completely devastated. He was the centre of our world."
